Oceanographic Studies
Our research vessels perform daytime and nighttime cruises with intermediate stations. During these cruises, physicochemical oceanographic characteristics of the water (e.g., currents, temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, etc.) are measured using specialized instruments (thermosalinographs, ADCP, CTD, etc.). Water samples from various depths, sediment samples, and plankton samples are collected and examined onboard for parameters that must be measured in situ. Part of the samples is preserved and transported to our land-based laboratory facilities for further specialized physicochemical and microbiological analyses.
At coastal stations, seabed surveys can be performed using special underwater cameras to detect underwater pollution sources (e.g., sewage outfall pipes). Autonomous diving is also possible for the inspection and documentation of fish stocks and for collecting undisturbed substrate samples.
Measurement data are logged on the vessel’s computers. Some data are processed immediately onboard, while the rest are stored and later processed at our land facilities together with the laboratory analysis results.
All measurements, sampling activities, and other scientific operations are carried out using permanently installed or portable equipment brought onto the vessel according to the planned schedule. The vessel can carry up to 10 scientists forming the floating research team. Samples requiring temporary preservation are stored in the vessel’s electric refrigerators and collected from the docking point by a dedicated laboratory unit for transport to our land facilities. The results are processed and evaluated using specialized software (models) and delivered to the client as a complete study report.
